Yes, as with many types of training programs, some type of practical component is required. In most cases, your employer will be required to complete the practical training and evaluation since they are the most knowledgeable in their specific workplace and equipment.
This is due to many unique variables that differ from workplace to workplace and machine to machine. For example, even if a worker were to complete live training at a training center on a specific piece of equipment, they would still need additional training on their specific workplace and the actual machine(s) they’ll be using.
The components required for ensuring that your MEWP operators are competent per the standards are as follows:
- Theory Training
- Knowledge Evaluation
- Practical evaluation
As indicated in CSA B354.8:17 Mobile Elevating Work Platforms – Operator (Driver) Training, theory training can be completed through an online or electronic medium. This is the portion that our online training covers.
